Gusty Winds and Rough Surf

1 North Bound 0 South Bound 8.5 hrs

Gusty wind and rough choppy surf with white caps to the horizon in all directions made spotting and tracking whales difficult today. Sand was blowing and accumulating in low lying areas making it difficult to look into the wind. No gray whales were sighted. The entrance to Point Dume Beach is still closed to vehicles but pedestrians are allowed to walk in. Parking on Westward tends to fill up quickly before noon or earlier if the surf is good and remains busy until sunset on weekends. Giant coreopsis is 50% blooming.
