Cloudy and overcast: 61 degrees, flat calm ocean, Wind 1-3 mph

A small Catalina type sail boat crashed on shore this morning at county line across from Neptunes Net Restaurant. No injuries were reported. According to bystanders the boat captain reportedly lost control of the boat trying to pull the sails down on the older and poorly maintained boat he recently bought, hoping to fix it up.

California State Park Ranger and a California State Park Lifeguard were on site evaluating the boat and waiting for the tow boat driver to come and prepare the boat for transport. The boat was expected to be towed out with the rising tide at 7pm. ( high tide at 8:41pm)

One cow /calf pair stopped at the point this morning before continuing on its journey north to the arctic feeding grounds. A solo whale traveled through at top speed over a mile out.

The sun tried to peak through the heavy clouds today creating what is commonly known as “God Rays” or scientifically known as crepuscular rays which are sunbeams that can be seen when the sun is directly over or under the clouds. They can be best seen on days with high contrasts of light like today.

The second cow/calf sighting arrived late in the day in low light. The pair stopped for a brief moment to roll and the calf lifted its head high out of the water. On closer inspection the cow was thin with cervical (neck) dips and visible scapula mounds. The calf appeared healthy and robust.
