Cloudy overcast day with occasional light drizzle. Wind 1-3mph: 60 degrees. Interesting cloud formations throughout the day as another storm system makes it way to to our area. One of the gray whales observed today had a white rostrum covered in barnacles and the other gray whale had many clusters of orange whale lice. The pair traveled through quickly together and were not sighted past the transect.

Lifeguard Captain reported two elephant seal pups washed up along the Point Dume beaches this morning. Rough choppy seas make it difficult and exhaustive for the pups to swim, hunt and feed. They wash onshore emaciated or underweight needing to rest and are evaluated by the California Wildlife Center Marine Mammal Rescue team to determine if they need to be admitted for further evaluations and feeding.
Rain spouts seen to the south over the Santa Monica Bay and darker stormy clouds filled in the horizon to the north blocking the sunset leaving a hint of pink light to highlight the Channel Islands.
