Active Dolphins and Gray Whales

February 24th, 2022

7 North Bound 0 South Bound

Sunny 60 degrees Ripply ocean with light 5-7mph winds. Active dolphins close to shore with several mom/calf pairs. A quad of four gray whales actively traveled through fast with popcorn blows as they went out deeper towards the sun line. Another sighting, a pair of whales, traveled through pirates cove quickly, just after sunset. The third sighting, a solo whale rounded Bird Rock with no light left and too dark to track. Sunset 5:48pm

The setting sun lit the coreopsis aglow tonight up on the bluff in Point Dume Natural Preserve! The light wind added an extra dimension to the experience of walking past these beauties, taking in all the color and smells of the (early) peak bloom.
