One UnderWeight Gray Whale Migrating North Past Point Dume Malibu

1 North Bound 0 South Bound 5 hrs

One underweight Gray Whale with visible scapular area and sunken neck areas where a thick fat pad should be, was seen migrating north in todays rough choppy seas. The whale appeared to be feeding in the surf zone for several minutes with head lifting out of water and sandy water at surface but difficult to photograph due to the choppy rough tide. Active Bottlenose Dolphin nursery pod escorted this whale into view. The whale migrated out to deeper water into the sun line out of view and the dolphins continued north westerly along the shore line in the surf.
