Where are the Gray Whales? None Today!

February 16th, 2024 Friday

0 North Bound 0 South Bound 6 hrs

Partly Sunny 62 degrees Water temp 58 degrees Clouds along a hazy horizon. Fishing boats came and went through the area on and off through out the day.

No Gray Whales observed today despite good viewing conditions.

Land erosion observed throughout the Point Dume Natural Preserve leaving deep trenches along the trails. Giant Coreopsis flowers are~ 5% bloom with majority of plants still producing buds.

Motorized para glider sailed somewhat erratically along the coast, over the parking lot, up into the Point Dume Natural Preserve. The driver attempted to attract attention from beach goers and hikers on the bluff by dropping altitude and changing directions of flight mid air. Upon leaving the area, the driver dropped down to water level passing the little point, splashing the water with his feet. Definitely not a regular sighting, perhaps he is a stunt man training for an upcoming job (?)

Sun set below the pink cotton candy clouds tonight with no visible green flash.
