Three Gray Whales: Cotton Candy Colored Sunset

February 13th, 2024 Tuesday

3 North Bound 0 South Bound 5.5 hrs

Three Gray Whales seen in two sightings. A solo whale was in close to shore displaying feeding behavior, but was abruptly chased out as group of 6-8 swimmers rambunctiously attempted to get close creating a scene. The whale left stealthy. Any human behavior that changes the whales behaviors risks a large fine and or potential jail time as Gray Whales ( all marine mammals and dolphins) are protected by the Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972 The UME (Unusual Mortality Event) is ongoing making it more important to be aware of whales while boating and swimming to allow them safe passage and avoid interacting that stops feeding behaviors or potential injury.

Mostly sunny skies changed at sunset with bright cotton candy shades of pink, orange and lavender.
